Sylhet Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal has no case

The Sylhet Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal is running without any case as no case was referred to the special court in recent months.
According to sources at the tribunal, a coordination committee at division level, headed by divisional commissioner, recommends sensational cases to home ministry for speedy trial. Then the ministry sends the cases to divisional speedy trial tribunals.
The committee in Sylhet has written to the ministry for sending the cases, but the ministry is yet to refer any case to the tribunal, the sources said.
Kishore Kumar Kar, special public prosecutor (PP) at the tribunal, said despite almost all the courts in Sylhet are over-burdened with cases, the tribunal has no case.
"I also officially informed the home ministry about the situation," he said.
The PP said the high court had stayed trial process of eight cases in the tribunal in different times.
Proposals for withdrawal of the stay orders were sent to the solicitor in the law ministry for several times, he added.
