Rejoinder, our reply
Bilkis Ahmed has protested a report published in The Daily Star on June 22 headlined, “Road crash saves kidnapped man”. The report was about the kidnap of Didar Ahmed Pulok by a gang Pulok alleged was hired by his younger brother Benazir Ahmed Alak.
In her rejoinder, Bilkis, mother of Pulok and Alak, said it was not a kidnapping incident nor it was involved with a matter of money or family property as was alleged by Pulok following the incident on June 21.
She said Pulok had a "history of delusional and paranoid schizophrenia" and was a "drug addict who had been [in the past] in a rehabilitation center".
On the day of the incident, the rejoinder added, Pulok was being taken to Ahsania Mission Rehabilitation Center for treatment in Gazipur on her instructions.
Claiming herself as the managing director of Faiz Cold Storage Ltd, of which Pulok had claimed to this paper to be the chairman, Bilkis said Pulok was neither a businessman nor the chairman of the cold storage.
OUR REPLY
We published the report based on the spot visit by our correspondent, the case statement and also the statements of Pulok, plaintiff of the kidnap case, his relatives, witnesses and arrestees in the kidnap case and the investigation officer.
Talking to The Daily Star, Pulok claimed to be the chairman of the cold storage.
Hiru Mollah, the investigation officer, suspected Alak was involved in the kidnapping as he went into hiding after the incident.
That was why our correspondent could not contact him.
According to Hiru Mollah, also the sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station, Alak would not have been on the run if he were innocent.
Humayun Kabir Tutul, public relations officer of Ahsania Mission, told this paper on Monday that the arrestees, who claimed to be taking Pulok to the mission that night, had no connection with the organisation.
