4 accused policemen get fresh postings

Four policemen, suspended following the death of a 16-year-old boy in mob beating in Companyganj upazila of Noakhali district last year, have been given postings in new places.
Though investigation against the cops is going on, the authorities concerned let them join duty, withdrawing the suspension orders. The policemen are officer-in-charge Rafiq Ullah, sub-inspector Akram Sheikh and constables Abdur Rahim and Hema Ranjan Chakma of Companyganj Police Station.
An angry mob beat the boy, Shamsuuddin Milon, dead on suspicion of being a robber at Tekerhat under the upazila on July 27 in presence of the cops.
A video footage of the incident telecast on Somoy TV channel showed how the mob beat up the boy after police forced him to get off a police van.
After filing a case with the Judicial Magistrate's Court here by Milon's mother Kohinoor Begum on August 3, accusing the policemen and two locals, police administration suspended the cops for negligence in duty during the incident.
OC Rafique Ullah has been posted at Rangamati Police Station while SI Akram Sheikh at Senbagh Police Station. Constables Abdur Rahim and Heam Ranjan Chakma have been posted at Chaumohani police camp and Chatkhil Police Station.
District police superintendent Harunur Rashid Hazari said the suspension orders against the policemen have been withdrawn as per directive of the higher authorities. It will not affect the ongoing investigation against them, the police superintendent added.
Their yearly increments and promotion will remain stopped until the matter is disposed of, the SP further said.
Md Belal Hossain, acting officer-in-charge of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, said the investigation is at final stage. “We are waiting for approval of the higher authorities on some issues relating to the investigation.” He added.
Milon mother has expressed grave concern over the postings of the policemen before completion of the investigation.
