Trader dies in city road crash
A vegetable trader died after being run over by a truck when he fell off the back of a pick-up van near the Basila bridge in the capital's Hajaribagh area last night.
The pick-up van had braked hard to avoid colliding with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at around 10:30pm. Simultaneously, a second pick-up van hit it from behind, said Bijoy, who was sitting beside the victim, Abu Taher, 50.
The violent jerking caused Taher and a woman sitting beside him, Shanti, 22, to fall off the side, right onto the truck's path and their driver, Krishna, 22, to hit the steering wheel, added Bijoy.
The injured Krishna and Shanti were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. DMCH sources said they were out of danger.
Meanwhile, our Mymensingh correspondent reports, a sub-assistant engineer at a private firm died on the spot as a Mymensingh bound bus from Dhaka rammed his motorcycle on Dhaka- Mymensingh highway in Trishal upazila yesterday.
The victim Abdul Halim, 50, of Pirujali village in Joydebpur of Gazipur, was going to visit the construction site of his firm, said police.
Our Sirajganj correspondent reports, a mango trader was killed and two others, including the driver of a pick-up van, were injured as a truck hit the van on Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway at Harinchara in Taras upazila yesterday.
Moklesur Rahman, 35, of Rajbhoir village in Netrakona district, died instantly, said police.
Our Dinajpur correspondent adds, a man was crushed under a speeding truck on Dinajpur-Panchagarh highway in Shalbahan area of Birganj upazila yesterday.
The victim was identified as Md Manik, aged around 40.
The detail about the man could not be known, said police.
