Shut Uttara campus

UGC urges edn ministry

The University Grants Commission (UGC) for the second time sent a letter to the education ministry requesting it to take steps to shut down Prime University's Uttara campus.
In the letter sent on Wednesday, the UGC made the request as the campus is still running without permission. The commission sent its first letter on April 18.
The Prime University authorities closed the campus on April 1 this year upon receiving instruction from the UGC but the campus director still runs it illegally, said UGC and university sources.
The letter said Abul Hossain, Uttara campus director, filed three cases with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court and High Court in this regard but they were dismissed.
"We don't own the campus anymore," said Mir Shahabuddin, member secretary of Trustee Board of Prime University, told The Daily Star.
Contacted, Education Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury said, "We will definitely take steps in this regard."
