Shab-e-Barat on July 5
Shab-e-Barat, a holy night for the Muslims, will be observed on July 5 as the new moon for the month of Shaban was not sighted anywhere in the country yesterday.
The decision came at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee, held at the Islamic Foundation office in the evening.
Secretary of Religious Affairs Ministry and Vice Chairman of the committee Kazi Habibul Awal presided over the meeting.
The meeting reviewed reports and messages received from across the country about non-appearance of the new moon in the skies of Bangladesh.
“As the moon of Shaban of 1433 Hijri was not sighted in the skies of Bangladesh on Wednesday, the month of Rajab will end on Thursday on completion of 30 days and Holy Shaban month will begin on Friday,” a PID handout said.
