Speaker's ruling historic
Former railways minister Suranjit Sengupta yesterday said the crisis between a bench of judiciary and the legislature had been over with the historic ruling of the Speaker.
"With the ruling, all questions raised have been settled," he said. "Now the ball is with the chief justice."
On Monday, Speaker Abdul Hamid ruled that High Court Judge AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik had violated the constitution by making derogatory remarks about parliament and the Speaker.
He, however, urged lawmakers to withdraw their proposal about removal of Justice Manik.
Suranjit was addressing a commemorating meeting on language heroes Bahauddin Chowdhury and Gaziul Haque, organised by Bangabandhu Academy.
