Injured Jessore Jubo Dal leader dies, none held yet
Organising secretary of Jessore district unit Jubo Dal Ashiqur Rahman Akul, 45, who was attacked by a gang on Monday night, died early yesterday.
Locals said a group of youths often threw brickbats at houses at Block-E of Upashahar in the district town at night.
At an arbitration on Monday, night local leaders identified Hiron, Asif and Amit as the culprits. Hearing the news, Akul reprimended them and slapped Hiron while returning home from the town.
At this, they became angry with Akul. The three criminals hit him in the head with sticks, leaving him critically injured.
Locals took Akul to Jessore Medical College Hospital at about 11:00pm where he succumbed to his injuries at about 3:00am yesterday.
All the three accused went into hiding immediately after the incident, police said.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Abdul Jalil said a case was filed in connection with the killing. "We have already launched a drive to arrest the criminals," he said.
Jessore district BNP organising secretary Delwar Hossain Khokon, terming Hiron as a criminal, demanded arrest and punishment of the culprits.
