English language fairs held under English in Schools (EIS) programme, a joint initiative of The Daily Star and mobile operator Robi, saw lively participation of young learners of seven schools in Lalmonirhat, Narail and Munshiganj districts yesterday.
Adcom Ltd is the creative and event partner of the fairs.
Over 500 students of Hatibandha SS High School, Shah Goribullah Girls' High School and Parulia SCBL High School in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district eagerly took part in different competitions at the English language fair held at SS High School, reports our correspondent.
Rezaul Karim Prodhan, headmaster of SS High School, inaugurated the fair at the school auditorium at around 12:00 noon. Robi Area Manager Shakil Jahan, teachers of the three schools and guardians of the students were present.
“The Daily Star and mobile operator Robi have created the opportunity for schools kids to learn English through taking part in such programme,” the headmaster in his inaugural speech said.
Following screening of Lion King, a globally renowned movie, the students of the schools participated in spot quiz, vocabulary test, one word question and quick questions--all based on the movie.
Selected students also took part in extempore speech on different topics and role play.
In Narail, over 100 students of Narail government Boys' High School joined the English language fair held in a classroom of the school in the morning, according to our correspondent.
Monira Sultana, headmaster of the school, inaugurated the fair at around 10:00am. Teachers of the schools and guardians of the students were present. Assistant teachers Nazrul Islam, Taraprodo, Sofiul Alam, Hadiuzzaman, Abdul Jalil, Khalil Hasan, Arun Kumer, Bipul Pathok addressed the inaugural function.
After watching Lion King, a globally renowned movie, the students of the school participated in spot quiz, vocabulary test, one word question and quick questions--all based on the movie.
Selected students also took part in extempore speech on different topics and role-play.
The students also entertained the audience by telling jokes and singing songs.
Our Munshiganj correspondent reported that around 200 students of AVJM Government Girls' High School, Prof Iajuddin Ahmed Residential Model School and College and KK Government Institution in Sadar upazila of the district had an enjoyable day as they took part in the English language fair held at the auditorium of AVJM Government Girls' High School.
Abul Kashem, acting headmaster of the school, opened the fair. Teachers of the three schools and guardians of the students joined the programme.
The acting headmaster in his inaugural speech said the learning techniques shown in the language fair are helpful for both the students and teachers as picking up a language is enjoyable and more effective than learning a language through arduous efforts.
