Robbers posing as policemen loot 6 Manikganj houses
Robbers posing as policemen looted valuables from six houses at Manikdah village in Singair upazila early yesterday.
Locals and victims said, 10-15 robbers in the guise of policemen entered the house of Monir Hossain at around 1:00am.
They tied up the hands, legs and mouths of the members of the house and beat them up mercilessly.
Then they looted cash Tk 40, 000 and 5 tolas gold ornaments by breaking the almirah.
The robbers also entered the house of Monser Ali at around 2:30am and looted cash Tk 55, 000, more than two tolas gold ornaments, two mobile sets and other goods from the house.
In the guise of policemen, the robbers also looted cash Tk 1, 36,000 and 5 tolas of gold ornaments from the nearby house of Bohor Ali.
The robbers then took away cash Tk 70, 000 and two mobile sets and other goods from the houses of Sheikh Asandi at around 3:00am.
Then they looted houses of Jamal Hossain and Manwar Hossain.
Officer in-charge (OC) of Singair Police Station Safiqul Islam, however, said that there was no allegation of robbery in the area.
“Thieves entered a house but they fled the scene after the villagers chased them” the OC said.
In Khulna, criminals posing as policemen took away a motorbike from Shikder Kamrul Hasan Kochi, assistant professor of Kachua Degree College in Bagerhat and also president of Kachua upazila unit Jubo League, on Saturday night near Rupsha Bridge on Khulna- Dhaka highway, reports a correspondent.
The victim alleged that 6 to 7 people, wearing police uniform, waylaid him and beat him up mercilessly at about 8pm.
Later, they left the place on a microbus along with his motorbike.
