Chess polls today
The much-discussed polls of Bangladesh Chess Federation will be held today at the National Sports Council with 117 voters to elect a 25-member committee.
Before the polls, it got much attention after the current chess players including country's five Grandmasters came under an umbrella in protest of some candidates who are not well-known in the chess arena but are backed by the District and Divisional Organisers' Association who have majority votes of 70 out of 117.
The councillors will elect a 25-member committee, comprising one president (govt nominated), four vice presidents, one general secretary, two joint secretaries, one treasurer and 16 executive committee members.
In the last one week, the candidates of both panels travelled to different districts to convince the voters and it has been learnt that no panel is clear favourite to post outright victory, with the chance of having a mixed committee.
