First pry school for 7 orange producing villages opens

The people of seven orange producing villages under Juri upazila had a happy occasion as Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Alkama Siddiquee inaugurated Shuknachhera Non-government Primary School at Suknachhera village on Thursday.
It is the first primary school in the hilly forest area comprising the villages of Shuknachhera, Hayachhera, Jalai, Kuchai, Belbari, Binandapur and Koilertol under Goalbari union of Juri upazila. The area is well-known for large scale production of delicious winter fruit orange.
After inauguration, the deputy commissioner gave the first lesson to the students by writing "Amar Sonar Bangla Ami Tomay Bhalobashi" on the black board.
Earlier locals appealed to high officials and people's representatives for setting up a primary school there.
Reading a story on the issue published in Bangla daily Prothom Alo in last month, Alkama Siddiquee took initiative to establish a primary school at Shuknachhera.
The administration arranged a piece of land and local people donated materials to construct the bamboo-fenced tin-shed schoolhouse. Many locals offered voluntary physical labour for the purpose.
Md Azizur Rahman, a member of the newly formed school managing committee, said, Tk one lakh 50 thousand have been spent to built the schoolhouse. Academic activities of the school started on Thursday as 91 students had already been admitted to the school. However, only 12 pair of desk and bench, a blackboard, four chairs and four tables have been managed.
The school premises assumed a festive look as guardians and students attended the inaugural ceremony.
"I am very happy to see the long awaited demand of the local people fulfilled," he said, adding that he will try to get the school registered," DC Alkama Siddiquee told The Daily Star.
