The Walton National Volleyball Championship (26th Men and 21st Women) gets underway from today at the National Volleyball Stadium.
Ten men's group comprises four district teams, one university team, three services teams and defending champions and runners-up teams while the women's group consists of six district teams, one university and defending champions and runners-up.
Bangladesh Volleyball Federation president Golam Kuddus Chowdhury Babu informed that the federation has taken a three-year development programme with the financial assistance from Ifad Group and International Volleyball Federation.
“We have already worked at six district as the IVF is providing us with 600 balls each year and even providing us with some administrative cost to take country's volleyball ahead,” said Chowdhury hoping that they would be able to return to the former standard of the game after the development work.
The BVF president urged local sponsors Walton to increase their budget for the national volleyball championship as they have to arrange accommodation, food and transportation for the teams from outside the capital.
BVF general secretary Ashiqur Rahman Miku, tournament committee chairman Monirul Haque and Walton's deputy director Iqbal Bin Anwar were among others present.
