Conclusion of an eventful year
Bangladesh and India have jointly organised a two- day celebration programme marking the concluding ceremony of the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore and inaugural event of the Bard's 151st birth anniversary. Artistes from both Bangladesh and India will perform at the event.
An art exhibition featuring paintings of Tagore and paintings based on Tagore works by Bangladeshi artistes will be inaugurated at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) at 4:30 pm on May 6. The inauguration of Tagore's book exhibition will also be held at Bangladesh National Museum at 4:30pm the same day.
A cultural programme will follow at BSA at 7pm. Noted Bangladeshi artistes will perform solo and choral songs; recite poetry and will offer poetry dedications to Tagore while noted Indian actress Sharmila Tagore will recite and Agnibha Bandyopadhyay will render songs at the event.
A seminar titled, "Worldview of Rabindranath Tagore and Present World" will be held at Bangla Academy at 4pm on the second day (May 7) of the celebration programme. Director General of Bangla Academy Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan will deliver the welcome address while Dhaka University Professor M.M. Akash will present the keynote paper at the seminar. Munzur-e-Mowla, Abdush Shakoor and Farzana Siddika will hold discussions at the seminar. Professor Sanjida Khatun will preside over the seminar.
A cultural programme featuring solo and choral songs, recitations from Tagore, poems dedicated to Tagore and staging of a theatre production titled "Nishimon Bisarjan" by Mahakal Theatre Group will be held at 7pm at BSA while recitation from Tagore poems and self-composed poems on Tagore will be presented at Central Public Library, Shahbagh at 7pm.
A cultural programme will be held simultaneously at Bangladesh National Museum at 7pm on the same day. Artistes of Sattriya Kendra, Gauwahati, India will stage a Tagore dance drama "Chandalika" based on Sattriya dance at the venue.
