Contractors of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) threw out officials of Rajshahi Sarak Bhaban and locked the office in Rajshahi city yesterday demanding payment of unpaid bills worth Tk 318 crore in two projects within seven days.
Before leaving the key before the office entrance, they threatened to sue the communication ministry's secretary and chief engineer if the demand was not met.
Organising a press conference there, they said they submitted the bills in March 2011 over the renovation of the district and Rajshahi zone roads, worth Tk 230 crore and Tk 117 crore respectively.
But the government released only Tk 16 crore and Tk 13 crore for the respective projects, they said, adding that the work was completed under bank loans and the delay was incurring them losses.
Shahjahan Ali read out a written speech while Atikur Rahman, Abdul Awal, Harunur Rashid, Korban Ali, Sayeed Hasan and Anisur Rahman were present.
