Witness of a murder case dies in 'accident'
The principal witness of a sensational murder case along with the co-rider of his bike was killed in a mysterious road accident at Hadir Mor in the city on Saturday.
The witness Tuhin Ali, 32, son of Akkas Ali of Khulipara and co-rider Munir Hossain, 30, son of Delwar Hossain of Talaimari area, succumbed to their injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital at around 8:00pm.
Police and witnesses said the accident took place at around 4:00pm while the duo was going to Shaheb Bazar from Talaimari area in a motorcycle.
A microbus hit their motor bike from behind and ran over them as they fell on road.
Tuhin's father Akkas Ali filed a murder case with Boalia Police Station in this connection.
Akkas told The Daily Star that Tuhin was the main witness of his cousin and Awami League activist Alamgir Hossain Pintu murder case.
“We consider the accident as a planned murder”, he alleged.
Pintu was hacked to death at Kumarpara in the city during a procession of Awami League on September 21 last year.
The murder created sensation in the city as the name of a ward councillor Nizamul Azim was indicted into the case.
The accused persons of Pintu murder case were threatening him with death, if Tuhin does not withdraw his name as witness of the case, Tuhin's father Akkas Ali added.
Tuhin filed a general diary with the police station on October 26 in this regard.
Sub Inspector (SI) Imaul Haque of the police station said they collected evidence from the spot where the accident took place.
Khan M Shariar, officer-in-charge of the police station, said they found nothing that indicates there was foul play involved.
