Aga Khan Award prize money doubled
Prize money of Aga Khan Award for Architecture (AKAA) has been doubled raising the amount to $ 1 million from $ 500,000, says a press release.
Aga Khan (fourth) in a remark said doubling the award money will support the recipients, many of whom are neither well-known nor well-funded
The AKAA was established by Aga Khan IV in 1977.
It is presented in three-year cycles to multiple projects that set new standards of excellence in architecture, planning practices, historic preservation and landscape architecture.
Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban won the award in the fourth cycle (1987-1991).
A mosque located in Chandgaon, Chittagong and Nishorgo Oirabot-nature interpretation centre located in Teknaf, Chittagong- were among the nominated projects for the recently completed eleventh cycle (2008-2010).
The next prize will be awarded in 2013.
Nominations are now being accepted. The nomination period runs until September 15, 2012.
