SMC students clash with Agri university quarters residents
At least 10 people were injured in a clash between the students of Suhrawardi Medical College and the residents of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University staff quarters in the capital last night.
The staff quarters residents vandalised at least 15 rooms, the canteen and TV room of the dormitories of the medical college.
Following the attack, the students vandalised 20 roadside shops and torched one tea-stall of the staff quarters, said Nazmul Karim, sub-inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
The two-hour long clash erupted around 7:00pm, while the students forced some staff quarters residents out of a hall premises where the outsiders were playing cards.
Following the incident, a group of 30 to 40 residents attacked the dormitories with sticks, iron rods and knifes.
In return, the students attacked the roadside shops mostly operated by the residents on Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University road. Fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused fire, said police.
No case was filed in this connection till filing of the report around 1:00am today.
