Poetry recitation and Baul songs on Pahela Baishakh

Udichi Shilpi Goshthi and Alokmoy Naha Sangeet Bidyayatan jointly organised an event of poetry recitation, Baul songs and a discussion at its office in the town welcoming Pahela Baishakh on April 14.
The students of Udichi Shilpi Goshthi and Alokmoy Naha Sangeet Bidyayatan embarked on the programme with choral renditions of patriotic songs. Artistes of Udichi Shilpi Goshthi performed dances that added colour to the programme.
Joynal Abedin, an eminent Baul artiste of the district, and his troupe enthralled the audience with his spontaneous performance at the programme.
Swapon Sarkar, Joyanti Biswas Joly, Sarwar Kamal Robin, Ajit Dey, Anik Sarkar and Jeshutosh Talukder accompanied on tabla, harmonium and dotara.
Shirin Bahar recited poems at the programme.
Advocate Emdadul Haque Millat; Dr. Chandra Prodip Kar; Dr. S.K Apu Chanda; Sheikh Bahar Majumder; president of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad's district unit, Ferdous Ara Mahmuda Helen and Kumaresh Nag, principal of Alokmoy Naha Bidyayatan, among others, spoke at the discussion.
The speakers were of the view that Pahela Baishakh is a festival where people belonging to different sects and religions come closer and identify themselves as Bengalis.
Sarwar Kamal Robin, Udichi's district Sangsad secretary, conducted the programme.
