Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has sought 1,000 additional police personnel from the headquarters to ensure security during the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the port city on March 28.
CMP Commissioner Abul Kashem sent a letter to the police headquarters on March 19 seeking the additional force to be deployed on March 27 and March 28, said sources in the CMP.
Shafiqul Islam, CMP additional commissioner, said the request was made as part of the CMP's tight security plan for that day. If it is approved, he said, the additional force would report in Chittagong on March 26 evening.
The prime minister is likely to attend several programmes in the port city -- inauguration of a flyover, a power plant and four other government projects -- on that day, according to the sources at deputy commissioner's office.
Hasina is also set to address a rally organised by Chittagong city Awami League at Pologround in the afternoon.
