Baul Rashid Festival in Netrakona

The Baul Rashid Memorial Festival was held at Rajurbazar Collegiate School premises in Netrakona town on Friday night to pay tribute to the late Baul Rashiduddin and recall his outstanding contribution to folk culture.
The night long festival was inaugurated by Matiur Rahaman Khan, Administrator of Netrakona Zila Parishad and organised by Baul Rashid Academy, Netrakona. The festival was presided over by president of Baul Rashid Academy Nazrul Islam Khan. Local MP Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru was present as chief guest. ADC Netrakona Mohammad Anwar Hossein Chowdhury, Police Super Joydeb Kumer and Netrakona Sadar Upazila Chairman Tafsiruddin Khan addressed the gathering about the outstanding contribution of Baul Rashiduddin to folk culture.
Renowned folk singer Bari Siddiqui, Sirajuddin Pathan, Abdus Salam and other Bauls from different parts of the country performed the songs of the bard such as “Manush Dhoro Manush Bhojo” and more.
Lyrics such as this by Baul Rashiduddin won the hearts of the masses.
Rashiduddin was born in Bahirchapra village on January 21, 1889 and passed away on September 10, 1964. He was awarded by Bangla Academy in 2003 posthumously for his outstanding contribution to folk culture.
Rashiduddin along with some other renowned folk singers including Abdul Karim, Jalal Kha, Ukil Munshi and Chand Mia formed a society of bard singers in the downstream areas under greater Mymensingh region at the beginning of 19th century to highlight the folk culture of the region.
