Suranjit warns against corruption

Railways Minister Suranjit Sengupta yesterday warned authorities concerned to refrain from irregularities or corruption in embankment reconstruction, worth Tk 19 crore, in Sunamganj district for the protection of Boro crops.
The minister was addressing a meeting organised by Water Development Board (WDB) at Derai Upazila Parishad Auditorium in Sunamganj, attended by government officials and local leaders.
The government sanctioned the necessary fund to protect paddy fields from early flooding but the reconstruction was delayed due to negligence of and lack of supervision by the authorities concerned, he said.
Early floods inundate huge areas of Boro fields in the haor region almost every year due to delays and poor reconstruction of the protection embankments by WDB.
