PM to open hospitals, lay foundations of bridges
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate two hospitals and a motel and lay foundation stones of three bridges and a upazila parishad building during her Patuakhali visit on Saturday.
Hasina will arrive in newly formed Rangabali upazila at about 11:00am and lay the foundation stone of upazila parishad building. There she will exchange views with the local elite.
At about 12:30pm she will open Jubo Pantho Nibas, a motel of Parjatan Corporation in Kuakata. Then she will open a 20-bed hospital in Kuakata.
After completing work of the hospital at a cost of Tk 4.60 crore on three acres of land the construction firm handed it over to the health department on January 15 in 2010. All necessary instruments were also supplied to the hospital but its function got delayed due to lack of manpower.
Of late appointment to all 18 posts including four doctors at the hospital was done ahead of the opening ceremony.
The PM will also formally open 50-bed Kalapara upazila hospital that has been upgraded from a 31-bed one at a cost of Tk 5.75 crore.
Three doctors, in addition to the already working six doctors, have been posted at the health complex ahead of the prime minister's programme, said Dr Jitendra Roy, civil surgeon of Patuakhali.
On the same day, the prime minister will lay foundation stones of three bridges on 22-km-long Kuakata-Kalapara road.
The bridges are named after three sons of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman -- Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russel, also brothers of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Roads and Highways Department is building the three bridges -- the 890-metre-long Shaheed Sheikh Kamal bridge over Andharmanik River near Kalapara upazila town at a cost of Tk 65.18 crore, 482.37-metre-long Shaheed Sheikh Jamal bridge over Sonatala River at Hazipur point at a cost of Tk 43.43 crore and 408.36-metre-long Shaheed Sheikh Russel bridge over Shibbaria River at Mohipur point at a cost of Tk 24.83 crore, sources said.
The prime minister will address a public meeting as the chief guest at Mozahar Uddin Biswas College ground in the afternoon.
