DU student leader crushed under train
A Dhaka University student was crushed under the wheels of a train while talking over the mobile phone near Bidyaganj Railway Station in Mymensingh sadar upazila yesterday.
Hasan Iqbal Sajib, 23, president of Bangladesh Chhatra Union, DU, was knocked down by a Jamalpur-bound train around 7:30am when he was on the phone, standing on the rail track, said local railway police quoting Sajib's friend Ehsanul.
A few days ago Sajib came to Bidyaganj to visit Ehsanul's village home.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Jamalpur General Hospital for an autopsy, said Shaker Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Jamalpur Government Railway Police. A mobile phone was also recovered from the spot.
"We will check the call list of the mobile set and find out whether there was anything involved with the incident," said the OC.
On information, Sajib's elder brother and leaders and activists of BCU rushed to the spot.
Admitted to the statistics department of DU in the 2005-2006 session, Sajib could not make much progress in his academic career and that frustrated him in recent times, some of his friends said.
BCU president Ferdous Ahmed Uzzal and general secretary SM Shuvo expressed deep shock at the death.
