Remembering a socio-cultural champion
The 100th birth anniversary of cultural personality and journalist Ranesh Dasgupta was celebrated here in Dinajpur on Monday evening with a discussion and cultural programme.
Udichi's Dinajpur unit organised the programme at its complex to commemorate the contribution of Dasgupta who had struggled throughout his life to ensure the rights of people of the country.
Dasgupta, an author, journalist and politician, who spent time behind bars on several occasions for his movement to protect peoples' rights, continued his fight, said the speakers at the discussion.
Mirza Anwarul Islam Tanu, vice president of Dinajpur Udichi and convener of Shammillito Sangkritik Jot of Dinajpur, chaired the discussion.
Kazi Borhan, principal of Dinajpur Natya Samiti; Shafiqul Islam, general secretary of Bangabandhu Parishad of Dinajpur and Rezaur Rahman, general secretary of Dinajpur Udichi, spoke at the discussion.
Shukla Saha read out excerpts from the autobiography of Dasgupta. Sheikh Sagir Ahmed recited a poem authored by Dasgupta.
After the discussion, the programme wrapped up with live performances by artistes of Udichi, Dinajpur.
