Govt won't tolerate any harm to country
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said her government will not tolerate anything from within or outside the state that might harm the country.
“The present government is resolving all kinds of disputes with neighbours. We have already resolved the 64-year long (border) dispute,” she said while addressing the Graduation Ceremony of NDC-2011 and Armed Forces War Course-2011 at Mirpur cantonment.
Reiterating her government's stance to make the country's armed forces modern and time befitting, she said this government will do whatever is possible to raise the standards of the armed forces to world class.
The premier also assured to upgrade and modernise the National Defence College (NDC).
“But before that we have to be more strong economically; if our economy becomes stronger we will be able to do whatever is needed,” she said.
Mentioning that the government has taken massive initiative to make Bangladesh a digital country, she asked the armed forces to contribute towards achieving this aim.
Recalling the contribution of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the armed forces, Hasina said soon after the independence, Bangabandhu embarked on a gigantic task to build a strong armed force even amidst financial constraints of the war-ravaged country.
“Within a short period, he (Bangabandhu) established a number of important institutions, including Bangladesh Military Academy and Combined Armed School. He also took steps to procure modern arms and ammunition from abroad for the armed forces,” she added.
