Awards for altruism

To search for and honour altruistic personalities who work for the welfare of people across the country by taking up challenges, Singer-Channel i instituted the Kingbodonti Shahoshikota Puroshkar (Legendary Bravery Award) in June this year.
The grand finale of the Singer- Channel i Kingbodonti Shahoshikota Puroshkar was held at the ballroom of Hotel Sonargaon on December 1. Five personalities were honoured with this award. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Mansur Ahmed Chowdhury. Mansur is involved with many social welfare projects, including founding a floating hospital.
Among several thousand participants irrespective of caste, creed and religion from the country, 500 personalities are primarily short-listed for the award. Of them, eight personalities vie for the top among four categories. They were selected through judgment by the jury board and popular choice.
The jury board of the award comprised five eminent personalities --- Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, litterateur Selina Hossain, Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, Sultana Kamal and SM Shahjahan.
Rakibul Hasan and Md. Chan Mian were declared for Nirbhik Kingbodonti (Intrepid Legend) category. Md. Chan Mian eventually was put on top by the jury board. The department of police was chosen for the Dripto Kingbodonti (Steadfast Legend). Among the two finalists, Constable Shahid Mian and SI Pannu, the former stood first in this category.
Syed Galibul Saddam and Rajab Ali Khan were the two finalists in Shimaye Oshim (Unrelenting towards the Limit) category. The former received the award in this category. In the selection between rickshaw puller Joynal Abedin and teacher Mizanur Rahman, who died protesting against a sexual harassment incident at Natore, the latter was named in Sadhok Kingbodonti (Saint Legend) category. Mizan's widow received the award at the event.
Managing director and CEO of Singer Bangladesh Limited A. M. Hamim Rahmatullah and Managing Director of Channel i Faridur Reza Sagar handed over Taka 2 lakh and a crest to each winner in the four categories. Directed by Pijush Bandyopadhyay and Taher Shipon, the event was emceed by the former.
