15 killed in political violence

Rights body reports on November

At least 15 persons were killed and 759 injured in political violence throughout the country last month, rights organisation Odhikar revealed yesterday.
This reflects the persistent culture of violence between the two major political parties and their internal conflicts, they said.
According to Odhikar's November report, 27 incidents of internal violence took place in the ruling party and 10 in BNP. In them, four people were killed and 267 injured in Awami League and 163 persons were injured in BNP.
The most discussed incident of political violence in the month was the murder of Narsingdi Municipality Mayor Lokman Hossain on November 1.
Odhikar prepared the report with the information gathered by its network of human rights defenders and monitoring media reports in twelve national daily newspapers.
Odhikar also mentioned in the report that violence against women increased where at least 41 women and children were victims of rape.
They also mentioned that 14 journalists were injured by miscreants and police cadres.
