Theatre festival on 40th Victory Day
Theatre troupe Mahakal Natyasampraday will host a weeklong festival to mark the 40th Victory Day. Titled “Muktijuddher Sangskriti Utshab”, the festival will begin on December 1 at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Nine local and two Indian troupes will stage plays at the festival.
The festival will also take place at the Experimental and Studio Theatre Halls of the academy.
The festival will also feature seminars, staging of Liberation War themed plays by children's theatre troupes, songs, recitations, screening of films, photography exhibition and reminiscence of the war by sector commanders.
Local troupes to stage plays include Mahakal, Loko Natyadal, Nagarik Natyangan, Prachyanat, Theatre Art Unit and Shubachan. The Indian troupes are Aneek (Kolkata) and Cultural Campaign (Tripura).
The organising troupe Mahakal will stage two plays -- “Ghum Nei” and “Nishimon Bisharjan”. It will be the 100th show of “Ghum Nei”, written by Nasiruddin Yousuf and directed by John Martin. Aneek and Cultural Campaign will stage “Tapati” and “Court Martial” respectively.
Apart from staging plays at the festival, both Indian troupes will hold several shows in and outside Dhaka.
A committee has been formed to conduct the festival smoothly. The festival will run till December 8.
