Woman held for deceit in city
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday arrested a woman from the city's Moghbazar area on charge of cheating people in the name of giving admission to their children in city schools.
The arrestee is Rahima Begum, 40, wife of Mofazzal Hossain, hailing from Chandpur and a resident of the city's East Nakhalpara.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammad Abdul Baten, assistant operation officer of Rab-1, said a Rab officer in guise of admission seeker's relative engaged in a phone conversation with Rahima and made a false agreement with her regarding an admission.
The official also supplied an audio record of the conversation in which the woman demanded Tk 2 lakh against each admission, with Tk 1 lakh as advance and the rest amount due after admission.
The ASP said Rahima is member of a gang involved in cheating people in the name of giving admission into educational institutions.
