'Nation grateful to Barrister Amir'

The nation is grateful for the contributions of Barrister M Amir-Ul Islam, an organiser of the War of Liberation, a patriot and a human rights activist, said speakers at a programme yesterday.
Amra Surjomukhi, a socio-cultural organisation, organised the programme in the city's National Museum to honour Amir on his completion of 50 years in the legal profession.
AL leader Abdul Jalil, CPB General Secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim, National Human Rights Commission Chairman Prof Mizanur Rahman, Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud, Prof Zillur Rahman Siddique, former state minister Abul Hasan Chowdhury, former law minister Abdul Matin Khasru Chowdhury and Bangladesh Mahila Parishad President Ayesha Khanam also spoke.
