A cornucopia of classics at Shilpakala Academy
Bangladesh Sangeet Sangathan Samannay Parisad (BSSSP) arranged a musical programme featuring songs of Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Rajanikanta Sen along with gano sangeet popularised by Bhupen Hazarika, adhunik and more at National Music and Dance Centre Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on November 17. The musical programme was titled “Deepalikaye Jalao Alo”.
Artistes of the musical troupe Padatik Sangeet Shangshad performed choruses while four singers -- Mohiuzzaman Chowdhury, Nargis Chowdhury, Enayet E Mowla Jinnah and Yasmin Mushtari -- performed solo at the programme.
Artistes of Padatik Sangeet Shangshad started off with a Tagore song, “Himer Raate Oi Gagoney”. A Rajanikanta number “Jagao Pothike O Shey Ghume Ocheton” followed. The artistes wrapped up their choral performance with a Nazrul Sangeet, “Jago Nari Jago Bonhishikha”.
Tagore singer Mohiuzzaman Chowdhury rendered “Megh Bolechhey Jabo Jabo” and “Jaboi Ami Jaboi”. The singer also performed two adhunik songs -- “Nodi Choley Jabei Jani” and “Ek Jonomey Hoina Dekha” -- at the event.
Another Tagore singer Nargis Chowdhury sang “Ki Shur Bajey Amar Praney”, “Tomaye Gaan Shonabo”, “Anandadhara Bohichhey Bhuboney” and a Boitalik composition “Tobu Mone Rekho”.
Enayet E Mowla Jinnah performed gano sangeet popularised by the recently deceased singer Bhupen Hazarika. His repertoire included “Ami Ek Jajabor”, “Sharatbabu”, “Manush Manusher Jonno” and more.
Noted Nazrul Sangeet artiste Yasmin Mushtari was the last performer of the event. She presented “Shedin Chhilo Ki Godhuli Lagon”. The artiste also rendered “Harano Din-er Kotha Mone Pore Jaye”. Written and composed by Mohon Lal, the song was originally recorded by the legendary ghazal maestro Ustad Mehedi Hassan. Yasmin also rendered a bhawaiya number, “Kon Boney Dakilo Kokil Rey” and more at the event.
Sunil Das on violin, Moniruzzaman on flute, Raju Chowdhury on tabla, Bishnupada on percussion and Ujjal on keyboard instrumentally assisted the singers.
Nargis Chowdhury compiled and directed the programme. Mashkur-e-Sattar Kallol hosted the event. Arranged by BSSSP, this was the second instalment of a regular musical programme that will be held fortnightly at Shilpakala Academy.
