UK to help more in woman, child health

The UK will help support over 6 million births to be attended by skilled providers, 2.4 million pregnant women to have access to antenatal care, and over 16 million children in Bangladesh to be immunised.
Visiting UK International Development Minister Stephen O'Brien officially announced this here yesterday. The support will be provided over a period of 5 years up to 2016, said a British High Commission press release.
Joining 17 other donors to assist the Bangladesh's national health sector programme, the UK will help meet its commitment to improve maternal health, reduce child mortality and under-nutrition, and combat diseases such as TB, malaria and HIV/AIDS.
O'Brien said Bangladesh has made impressive progress on development in the past two decades, including on health.
"We look forward to working with the government and NGOs to help deliver this ambitious initiative."
