Libya to announce new govt on Sunday
The National Transitional Council said a new Libyan government led by interim premier Abdel Rahim al-Kib will likely be announced on Sunday.
Kib will "present the formation of the government next week for a confidence vote of the NTC. We expect the government formation to be announced next Sunday," Abdel Hafidh Ghoga, spokesman of the new authorities, told reporters.
The NTC chose Kib, a university professor from Tripoli, on October 31 to form an interim government.
Having declared the country's "liberation" three days after the October 20 capture and killing of Moamer Kadhafi, the NTC has launched a roadmap to a new Libya with a 20-month countdown to a general election.
Meanwhile several days of fighting between rival factions near the Libyan coastal city of Zawiya have left at least seven people dead, reports said.
The BBC's Karen Allen in Libya says rival communities have been fighting for an area previously controlled by Gaddafi loyalists.
Reports said trouble flared up on Thursday when fighters from Warshefana set up a checkpoint on a highway near Zawiya, challenging fighters from the city.
Fighters from Zawiya reportedly accused their Warshefana counterparts of having links to the old government.
At least seven people were killed although one report quoting medics in the Warshefana region put the toll at 13 - four from Zawiya and nine from Warshefana.
The interim government said the fighting had been resolved.
However analysts say the violence raises questions about stability in post-Gaddafi Libya.
