'Trial of identified war criminals to end by 2012'
State Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Advocate Quamrul Islam yesterday said trial of the identified war criminals would be completed by next year.
“The process of trial of the persons arrested for crimes against humanity already began and it must be accomplished in time,” he said while addressing a discussion at Dhaka Reporters' Unity organised by Sadhana Sangsad, a non-government organisation.
Former army chief Lt Gen (Rtd) Harun-Ur-Rashid, chief engineer of Road and Highways Engineer Abdul Quddus and secretary general of the organisation Delwar Hossain also spoke at the discussion with Israfil Alam, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on Ministry of Labour and Employment, in the chair.
Quamrul in his speech alleged that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is intimidating the witnesses to resist the trial of the war criminals. He said none can stop the trial.
