Poacher held with 23kg venison

A poacher was arrested with 23 kilogrammes of venison, snares and an engine-run trawler from Chunkuri launch ghat under Dakop upazila of Khulna district on Thursday afternoon.
Police, on information, conducted a drive and arrested the poacher Abdul Mannan Sheikh of Sairabad village under Rampal upazila of Bagerhat.
Abdul and 19 others, disguised as devotees attending Rash Mela at Dublarchar under Sharankhola upazila of Bagerhat, were poaching spotted deer of the Sundarbans. The others jumped into the water and escaped, said police.
The three-day Rash Mela of the Hindu community began on November 8 and ended with a holy bath in the Bay of Bengal on Thursday.
