BD women lose opener
The Bangladesh Women's Cricket Team suffered a 64-run defeat to the Sri Lanka Women's Cricket Team in the first practice match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
Bangladesh will play another practice match against the same opponents on Saturday at BKSP as part of their preparation for the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers, to be hosted by Bangladesh from November 14.
Sri Lanka continued their supremacy over Bangladesh as they comfortably won three matches against the same opponents at home in October.
Bangladesh won the toss and sent their opponents in to bat first and Sri Lanka scored 195 for 8 in 50 overs. Sandamali scored team highest 41 off 102 balls without any boundaries while the next highest score on the board, 35, came from extras. Number nine Chamani Senevir hit an unbeaten 28.
Khadijatul Kubra claimed three wickets, conceding 34 runs in 10 overs.
In reply, Bangladesh managed 131 runs for eight wickets in 50 overs.
For Bangladesh, captain Salma Khatun top-scored with 34 off 89 balls, while Lata Mondol added 27 off 58 balls.
Meanwhile, the USA team arrived in the capital on November 7 to take part in the qualifiers.
Bangladesh has been drafted in Group B along with West Indies, Pakistan, Ireland and Japan while Group A comprises South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Zimbabwe and USA.
