GD on DU Prof's house attack filed
A security officer of Dhaka University yesterday filed a General Diary (GD) with Shahbagh Police Station against some 20-25 unidentified people for their attack on the house of Dr Emran Kabir Chowdhury, a professor of the university and a member of the Public Service Commission.
Sheikh Muhammad Qamrul Ahsan, the security officer, claimed in the GD that a group of unknown youths came to Prof Emran's residence on the campus around 8:45pm Thursday. They kicked down the door and shouted abusive words at the PSC member, he said.
According to the campus sources, a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) members, who were not offered jobs in the 30th Bangladesh Civil Service examinations, made the attack out of their anger. The final results of the exams were published Wednesday.
The sources said the BCL high command submitted a list of leaders and activists of the organisation, who qualified the written test and were nominated for the viva voce in the 30th BCS exams, to the high officials of the government for awarding them the jobs.
The BCL members got furious, as Prof Emran did not lobby for them to get the jobs, said sources in the student organisation.
