Jibanananda Das recalled through recitation
To mark the 57th death anniversary of the poet Jibanananda Das, a poetry recitation programme was held recently at Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium of Central Public Library, Dhaka. Srote Abriti Sangsad, a troupe of elocutionists, organised the programme.
To pay tribute to Jibanananda, the troupe arranges recitation programmes every year. For this year, the troupe's tribute is a production, titled “Jibanananda Smaran”, featuring 20 recitations.
Planned and edited by Mahfuz Rizvi, the production covered the poet's works, based on the themes of nature, love, social issues, contemporary politics and universal perspectives. The production featured poems -- “Ananda”, “Monokonika”, “Bhoy Bhul Mrityu”, “Surjokorojjol”, “Onek Mrito Biplobir Smarane”, “Adbhut Andhar Ek”, “Manusher Mrityu Holey”, among others.
Young elocutionists Mahfuz Masum, Shanta Srabani, Dr. Robin Das and Shamima Sultana, among others, recited at the memorable programme.
A five-minute documentary on the life and works of Jibanananda was also screened at the programme.
