Speedy war crimes trial demanded
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad yesterday formed country-wide human chain protesting what they said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's conspiracy to protect the war criminals.
The freedom fighters' organisation demanded that Khaleda Zia apologizes to the nation for favouring the war criminals, and that the government completes trial of the war crimes soon, says a press release.
"The freedom fighters are prepared with their children. The witnesses will deliver testimony in the court fearlessly. We will be on streets to resist any conspiracy," said Sangsad Chairman major general (retd) Helal Morshed Khan.
Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council, Dhaka Mohanagar Command, Pratishthanik Command and freedom fighters' children formed human chain and staged demonstration before International War Crimes Tribunal in the city.
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad district unit commands also staged demonstration in front of the deputy commissioners' offices, while Upazila Commands before UNO offices across the country.
Freedom fighters' children brought out a truck rally in the city demanding capital punishment of the war criminals.
District unit commands formed human chains and rallies in the districts across the country yesterday demanding speedy trial of war criminals.
Speakers at a rally in Mymensingh expressed their concern over delay in the trial process, reports our district correspondent.
Former lawmaker Khandaker Abdul Malek Shahidullah, commander of Muktijuddah Sangsad Muktagacha unit advocate Idris Ali, Abul Kashem, Safir Uddin and Jahan Ali, among others, spoke at the even.
Earlier, a procession was brought out in the upazila headquarters attended by hundreds of freedom fighters and their children.
Muktijuddah Sangsad Sadar upazila unit also formed another human chain before the deputy commissioner's office. They also submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.
In Noakhali, Leaders, workers and supporters of different political parties and socio-cultural organisations also joined the human chain programme of the freedom fighters on Shaheed Minar premises at the district headquarters at 10:00am.
Muktijoddha Sangsad district unit commander Mojammal Haque Milon and Deputy Commander Momatazul Karim Bachu, among others, spoke at the rally after the human chain.
Rallies were also held in other upazila headquarters in the district.

A human chain was also formed stretching from trunk road to jail road demanding the trial.
Sadar Upazila Chairman Abdur Rahman, district freedom fighter commanders' acting commander ABM Bahar, deputy district commander Abul Kalam spoke on the occasion.
In Madaripur, a human chain programme was held in front of deputy commissioner's office demanding trial of alleged war criminals, including Ghulam Azam, Motiur Rahman Nizami, Delwar Hossain Saydee and SQ Chowdhury.
Over two hundred freedom fighters participated in the human chain programme where Muktijoddha Sangsad district unit commander Shahajahan Hawlder, thana unit commander Kazi Ali Hossain spoke.
Moreover, the similar programmes were held in other upazilas of the district.
As part of country wide programme district units of Thakurgaon and Panchagarh Muktijoddha Shangsad formed human chains on Thkurgaon DC office premises and Panchagarh-Dhaka highway before Panchagarh Ser-e-Bangla Park in the town.
In Bagerhat, Narsingdi Munshiganj and Patuakhali districts, the similar programmes were held.
