ACC starts probe into alleged irregularities in Nilphamari
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started investigation into alleged irregularities in the recruitment of class three and class four employees in Nilphamarti health department.
Abdul Gaffer, deputy director (DD) of the ACC's integrated district office in Dinajpur, is conducting the investigation. He talked to some new recruits and the officials involved in the recruitment process on Wednesday and Thursday.
The investigator also collected October 17 issue of The Daily Star that carried a report on the alleged recruitment scam in the district health department.
ACC sources said they have started investigating the matter following two complaints lodged with the commission by a local lawmaker and the district unit of Muktijoddha Sangsad.
Joynal Abedin, commander of the district unit of Muktijoddha Sangsad, said they have already submitted some documents relating to the 'irregularities' in the recruitment to the ACC official.
Contacted, Civil Surgeon (CS) Abdur Rashid Akond said the ACC official has not yet talked to him. He claimed that the recruitment process was transparent and fair.
The district health department invited applications from intending candidates on May 19 this year for appointment to 83 posts of class three and class four employees.
After completing all formalities, Civil Surgeon Abdur Rashid Akond, also the member-secretary of selection committee, published a list of 70 qualified candidates on September 10. He could not publish the names of the remaining 13 qualified candidates for office assistant cum computer operator due to injunction issued by the court.
Senior Assistant Judge's Court, Nilphamari, issued the order on September 7, restricting hiring of 13 office assistant cum computer operator following a petition filed a candidate, Mohabbat Hossain, for one of the 13 posts.
He brought the allegation of corruption against the civil surgeon in selecting the candidates. Local freedom fighters alleged that the civil surgeon recruited the candidates by taking bribe from them.
They also demanded removal of the CS and urged the authorities concerned to take necessary actions against him.
