Fishes poisoned to death
Criminals poisoned fishes weighing about 800-900 maunds to death in Nandina Beel, awater body in Shyampur union of Badarganj upazila under Rangpur district early yesterday.
Fish cultivator Nittyanonda Das said he had been cultivating fish since long in the water body taking lease under Gopalpur Union Motsyojibi Samity from the upazila authorities. This year, he released various species of fish in the water body.
"But unknown criminals have poured poison in the water body late at night killing most of the fishes worth Tk 20 lakh," he alleged.
Nittyanonda Das later filed a case with Badarganj police station in this connection without identifying any criminal.
Contacted, officer in-charge of Badarganj police station Tobarok Ali said Nittyanonda had cultivated different species of fishes in Nandina water body. A case had been filed in this connection, he added.
UP chairman of Gopalpur, Altaf Hossain, visited the spot and demanded action against the criminals who killed the fishes.
