New name for professional leagues
The Bangladesh League, the professional football league, has been renamed as Bangladesh Premier League while upcoming second-tier professional league has been named Bangladesh Championship League, it was decided at an executive committee meeting of the Bangladesh Football Federation yesterday.
The first three editions of the professional football league was run under the tile of B. League, which was later turned into Bangladesh League from the fourth edition. Now the fifth edition of the prestigious league will see the new name of Bangladesh Premier League.
The meeting also increased the number of foreign players' registration to seven from four but kept the number of players eligible for a match to four. The Bangladesh League Committee had earlier decided to peg the number of players eligible for registration to four.
“Considering the aspects such as standard of players and game, secured investment on foreign players, the meeting decided to increase the number of foreign players' registration,” said BFF's senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy adding that this decision would remain valid till the sixth edition of the league.
The meeting also approved the recommendations of the league committee to form a committee to investigate match-fixing, if any case arises. If any team is found involved in match-fixing, they will have six points reduced from their achieved points along with the cancellation of the match.
Salam also informed that the number of participating teams of the Bangladesh Championship League might be increased to seven from six as they were considering to include Uttar Baridhara Club in the first-ever edition.
The meeting also decided to sign an agreement with the government on the allotment of Sylhet BKSP for a football academy by this month though the board of directors of BKSP agreed to lease Sylhet BKSP to the BFF for five years on conditions in April last.
The meeting also formed a committee headed on Harunur Rashid which will review the constitution of the District Football Associations and submit their report to the BFF executive committee as soon as possible.
