Muhith won't say anything on stocks

Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday refused to make any comment on the secondary share market, saying his critics say that whenever he speaks the market suffers a slide.
The minister said this while replying to the journalists' queries about the volatile situation in the stockmarket in front of his Secretariat office.
He said investment has been increasing in the primary market in response to the steps taken by the government in the last two to three months, but all the problems lie in the secondary market.
“How the issue could be resolved, I do not know,” Muhith said.
When reporters asked him whether any manipulation was taking place in the secondary market, he said, “I am not going to make any comment. They say whenever I make a comment, the market falls.”
Replying to another question, the finance minister said the opposition leaders, who recently paid visits to the agitating investors, are politicising the issue, which will ultimately harm the investors' movement.
About the appointment of “scamsters” to important positions in the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), Muhith said, “We did not give them responsibilities. They [DSE] have appointed them. We do not control the stockmarket.”
