KFC, Pizza Hut launch hunger relief campaign

KFC and Pizza Hut yesterday launched the World Hunger Relief Campaign in association with the World Food Programme (WFP) in Dhaka.
Christa Rader, WFP country representative in Bangladesh, and Akku Chowdhury, managing director of Transcom Foods Ltd, inaugurated the month-long campaign to raise awareness on hunger and poverty and help schoolchildren by providing education and food.
Transcom Foods Ltd is the franchisee of KFC and Pizza Hut in Bangladesh.
KFC and Pizza Hut, the restaurants under the Yum! International brand, arranged the campaign, which will run until November 13 for the fifth time in Bangladesh.
Rader said the campaign would provide biscuits fortified with vitamins and minerals to one million poor children in 7,000 schools in food insecure areas across the country through its school feeding programme.
Yum! and the WFP will run the programme internationally in 112 countries through 35,000 restaurants under the Yum! International brand.
“Hunger is a global concern and an issue that faces each
of us no matter where we live and work. We have campaigned to raise awareness and funds for the WFP since 2007,” said Chowdhury.
“We are requesting our customers to give Tk 10 as donation to the WFP,” said Chowdhury.
All fund raised during the campaign will directly support the WFP's food relief fund in the least developed countries.
Last year, KFC and Pizza Hut collected Tk 8.18 lakh during a month-long campaign, said Chowdhury. He said they will be able to collect nearly Tk 16 lakh this year.
