Four killed in road crashes
Four people, including a couple, were killed and five others injured in road accidents in Tangail, Kishoreganj, and Pabna yesterday.
Our Tangail correspondent reports: A couple were killed as their private car skidded off Dhaka-Tangail highway and overturned near Bangabandhu Bridge early hours yesterday.
The victims were identified as Maj (retd) Dewan Tareq bin Rashid, 50, and his wife Farhana Moonmoon, 36. They hailed from Moulvibazar.
The ex-army officer was the traffic and security in-charge of Metallurgical Construction Company of China, a Chinese company assigned to collect toll and maintain the bridge.
Police said the couple used to live at a quarter of the company situated at the east side of the bridge. They had had an eight-month-old daughter.
Tapash Chandra Pandit, officer-in-charge, Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station, said Farhana died on the spot and Tareq en route to Tangail general hospital.
Our Kishoreganj correspondent says: A person was killed and five others injured as an improvised passenger vehicle (tomtom) overturned on Kishoreganj-Nikli highway at Darishar in Nikli upazila Friday night.
The deceased is Amir Hossain, 32, of Uttarpara village in Nikli.
One of the injured was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition. The rest were given first aid.
Our Pabna correspondent adds: An elderly man died on the spot after a bus hit him on Dhaka-Pabna highway at Loshkarpur village under the sadar upazila yesterday.
The dead is Md Eunus Ali Sheikh, 70, of village Talbaganpara under the upazila.
