Competition on painting, music and dance
'Child Rights Week' (October 3-9) concluded on Sunday at Thakurgaon Zila Parishad Auditorium with a prize giving ceremony, discussion and a vibrant cultural programme.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Shah Alam attended the discussion as chief guest while Headmaster of Thakurgaon Government Boys' High School Md. Akhteruzzaman was in the chair.
Among others, Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Shaheen Alam, Joint Secretary of district unit Awami League Mahbubur Rahman and District official, responsible for children's welfare, Jobed Ali, addressed the gathering.
The speakers at the discussion emphasised the need for the proper physical and mental development of children in the interest of a healthy nation.
Besides, they asserted that ensuring the fundamental rights of children has become essential for attaining the cherished goal.
Children should be protected from all forms of violence, repression and oppression so that they could go on to serve the nation.
Terming the children as the future power of the nation, the speakers called for ensuring equal rights to develop their latent intelligence as they constitute a significant portion of the country's total population.
Apart from this, they emphasised the need for ensuring children's safety and security and an end to early marriage in the greater national interest.
After discussion ADC Md. Shah Alam distributed prizes among the winners of different events.
To mark the 'Child Rights Week', the district unit of Thakurgaon Shishu Academy organised a competition on painting, essay, songs, dances etc.
