One killed as Jubo Dal rivals clash in Munshiganj
A man was killed and 10 were injured in a clash between two factions of Jubo Dal in Sreenagar upazila of the district Saturday night.
The dead was identified as Akter Hossain, 33, son of late Amzad Hossain of Doyahata village in the upazila.
Mizanur Rahman, officer in-charge of Sreenagar police station, said the clash started between the two groups of Jubo Dal, an associate body of BNP, at Doyahata village around 7:45pm.
One group is led by Md Sayem, president of Sreenagar union unit while the rivals by one Iqbal Mahmud Akash, he said.
The OC said that one of the supporters of Sayem used to stalk a relative of Akash, which forced her to stop going to school. A general diary has been lodged with the local police station in this regard.
To settle the matter, the two groups sat in arbitration at the office room of the OC on Saturday afternoon in presence of Barek Bepari, Sreenagar UP chairman, but the meeting ended in failure.
Later both the groups, equipped with sharp weapons, locked in a fierce clash after returning to the village from the arbitration.
Of the injured, Akther succumbed at Mitford Hospital in the capital city around 10:00pm, the OC said adding that the deceased was a supporter of Akash group.
The other injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Mitford Hospital where condition of Sagar, 30, and Saleh, 25, brothers of the victim, and Azim, 22, was said to be critical.
Saiful Islam, assistant police superintendent, said additional police have been deployed in the village to avert further untoward incidents.
