8-yr-old female domestic help found dead
Police recovered the body of an eight-year-old female domestic help from the residence of a businessman in the city's Uttara sector 14 early hours yesterday.
Her employer Shawkat Reza, owner of a garment factory in Ashulia, claimed that the girl Ritu Akhter hung herself with a scarf from the window grill in a rooftop room of the five-storied building.
Ritu, daughter of Kamal Hossain of village Haluaghat in Mymensingh, was employed at the house for the past three months with her cousin Rubina, 16, said Uttara police.
She went to bring the clothes left to dry on the roof around 12:00am yesterday. When she did not return, Rubina went up and found the hanging body, said police, quoting the residents.
Shawkat said they rushed her to Uttara Adhunik Hospital where doctors declared her dead. Police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy around 2:00am yesterday.
Shawkat's brother Syed Reza said Ritu quarreled with Rubina over dinner and they awoke hearing Rubina's scream when she discovered the body.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandaker Rezaul Hasan of Uttara Police Station said the residents could not give any motive behind the suicide.
There were no marks of torture on the body and their next step would come after the autopsy report, he added.
Ritu's father Kamal came to the police station. He too had no idea about the cause and did not complain of any torture by her employers, said the OC.
