'Final game' against govt after road marches
Terming the ruling Awami League an “anti-liberation force”, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday urged the people to make the earlier announced road march programmes a success, and said a "final game" against the government will follow that.
“I will visit the whole country to let the people know about corruption and misdeeds of this government before going for the final game. Those who want to chain the people will be chained by ousting this autocratic government,” she said.
Khaleda was speaking at a function at Diploma Engineers Institution in the city as a group of leaders and workers of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (Matin) led by its Secretary General Abu Naser Mohammad Rahamatullah joined BNP.
She will lead three road marches towards three divisional headquarters -- Sylhet, Chittagong and Rajshahi -- next month, and will address five public meetings during the programme.
Reiterating her earlier stance on caretaker government system, the leader of the opposition in parliament said, “Whatever the ruling party leaders are saying, I want to make it clear that no election will be held in the country under a political government. Election without a caretaker government will not be allowed.”
The BNP chief said the ruling party is involved in "anti-liberation activities at every step". She however did not explain.
"The government signed secret deals with India even ignoring their own party and the cabinet only to continue in power,” she alleged.
People in different areas of the country are already engaged in movements on various issues, and BNP will unite all of them to oust the government to save democracy as well as the country. “If we can forge unity among the people, we will not have to wait till next September to oust the government.”
Bitterly criticising the government for bringing Jamaat leaders before court in fetters, she said those who are behind this will have to face the same fate since this government is not the last one.
“None of them who are torturing opposition men during remand will be spared,” she warned.
Party leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, and Prof Emajuddin Ahmed and Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel also spoke.
